Signs of Early Pregnancy

Signs of pregnancy:

missed or late period
spotting or very light period
swollen, tender breasts
nausea, vomiting
frequent urination

Warning signs to report to your doctor immediately:

cramping or severe pain in your abdomen
spotting for more than 1 day
bleeding
feeling faint or dizzy

Prenatal Care

Contact your health care provider or obstetrician when you are pregnant. If you have a high risk condition, contact your physician immediately.
Some high risk conditions include:

diabetes
high blood pressure
heart, lung, kidney, thyroid, liver, or connective tissue disease
asthma
seizure disorders or epilepsy
mental health problems
infections including urinary tract infections and sexually transmitted infections
multiple pregnancy
previous problems with past pregnancies

Prenatal Testing

A urine pregnancy test may be done to confirm the pregnancy. Sometimes blood testing for the pregnancy hormone named human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG will be done. Another hormone level for progesterone may be done if you have had a previous miscarriage or problems with previous pregnancies.
